“She can’t be more amazing than you, sorry,” he said over the water.

  “Looking. Hold on.”

  “Bracing for it.”

He made exaggerated sexual sounds while washing himself. “I’m not distracted,” she called.”

He gave a deep chuckle before turning up his obscene hissing noises.

“I can’t believe you,” she cried. “You’re like a four-year old child playing in church.”

“Sex with you is all the church I need.”

“Now, that is blasphemy,” she scolded. “Found it! Proverbs 31. It’s titled ‘The Woman Who Fears the Lord’. Now, that part’s me, but listen to the rest…

“‘An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.

She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax and works with willing hands.

She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens!’ Are you hearing this?” Nineveh cried.

“Loud and clear,” Daniel said, shutting off the shower.

“’She considers a field and buys it’ —I mean, this chick don’t play, she sees something, she thinks about it, and she buys it. Bam. And then it says, ‘With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.’ With her hands she plants a vineyard!”

“I think it means she uses the money she makes to buy it.”

“Either way is damn epic! Okay, listen to this, this is bad-ass. ‘She dresses herself’… are you listening?”

  “Avidly!”

“‘With strength’! She dresses herself with strength! ‘She makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.’ I think that this means she knows she’s good! But not in a haughty way, of course.”

  “Definitely not.”

Nineveh put the bible before her face to hide a naked Daniel standing out of the shower. “‘Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.’ I had to look that up, it’s talking about the machine that spins the material. Anyway, ‘…She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.’ Whooo all her household is in scarlet! I mean, this woman makes her own bed coverings, Daniel! And look here. ‘Her clothing is fine linen and purple.’ And oh, you’ll want to hear this.”

  “I’m very sure I do.”

Nineveh planted her eyes on his, having memorized the words. “‘Her husband… is known… in the gates.’ Now, why do you think that is?”

“Because of her bad-ass self, I’m imagining.”

Nineveh showed him the title of the section. “The Woman Who Fears THE LORD,” she declared. That’s why she’s bad-ass.” She returned to finish. “‘When he—her husband—sits among the elders of the land…’ Oh wait,” she corrected. “‘Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.’ But wait, she’s not done.”

“A woman’s work never is,” Daniel said, laughter in his deep voice.

“‘She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.’ You know what I think that means?”

  “Preach,” Daniel said.

“I think that means she laughs at trouble, that’s what I think that means.” She nodded, sure of it. “‘She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.’ See, I need to really work on that part. I hate most people. ‘She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.’ And oh, here it is. ‘Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: This is what he says, ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’” Nineveh sighed dreamily. “It ends with this wise nugget, ‘Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.’”

Nineveh closed the book with one final sigh, then froze at finding Daniel, leaning against the wall while stroking his cock.

“I forgot to tell you…” he groaned and hissed. “Hearing you read the word of God is a huge fucking turn on for me. And I’m glad to hear you’re all those things the woman of Proverbs is.”

“I…I am not,” she whispered, watching his cock move in and out of his fist.

“Oh yes. You are. Now you can get your ass in my bed, on your back, legs wide open. You’re getting that naughty, naked, dripping pussy spanked, since I can’t spank your ass.”

Nineveh got to his bed in a series of weird, skippy gallops, feeling like a drunk gazelle.

She stifled a shriek at the knock on Daniel’s door, jerking the covers over her.

  “Daniel?”

“It’s your Gramma,” Nineveh hissed even as Daniel wrapped his waist in a towel.

“Coming,” he called, tip-toe running to the door and opening it a crack.

  “Somebody’s here, Daniel.”

Instant terror flooded Nineveh at her tone.

  “Who?”

  “Some man looking for Nineveh.”
